PROTECTED SPACES
Today, Lanzarote is proud to be a territory marked by its enormous and diverse natural heritage, allowing it to maintain well-established, high quality tourism activity that respects and protects the environment.
In addition to the enormous scientific value of Lanzarote’s volcanic activity, its large variety of marine flora and fauna and unique terrestrial plants are highlights of its environmental resources. The Famara massif, in northern Lanzarote, is home to the largest number of endemic botanical species per km2 in the whole of Europe.
The island possesses excellent environmental qualities and has iconic ecosystems, all of which are protected by different legal instruments.
