Organised by Asociación de cine Tenique, an independent cultural association, Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote is an annual cultural event that takes place in various towns on the island of Lanzarote. Begun in 2011 by Javier Tolentino and Víctor Moreno, two renowned professionals from the world of cinema, the event has gone on to stake out a place for itself in the calendar of Spanish and international independent film. In 2018 the Muestra starts out on a new phase under the newly appointed director Javier Fuentes Feo.
Many internationally awarded filmmakers have taken part in the Muestra over its eight years’ of life so far. Directors of the stature of Víctor Erice, Basilio Martín Patino, Rita Acevedo, Federica di Giacomo, Oliver Laxe, Nelson Carlo de los Santos, Thomas Mauch, and many others, have presented their films here, given courses and taken part in interesting debates on contemporary cinema.
Apart from the Official and Cruce de Caminos (Filmmakers from the Canaries) sections, this eight edition of the Muestra de Cine is now launching two new sections called Trasfoco and Destiladera. Similarly to previous years, the Muestra is not restricted to the confines of the film theatre or the projection room, and brings film out into the real world through a series of walks around the island, workshops and educational experiences for young people and children.
