08. Álvaro Guzmán: Sea, Nature and Environmental Awareness.

From a lush green land and raised among tall buildings and noise, he found in Lanzarote a place where he could listen to himself and breathe an intense tranquillity.
In love with the sea ever since he was a child, one day when he was on the beach, he realised that under his feet there was a world of colours and shapes that did not belong to the environment. These were the microplastics that the sea returns to us, memories in the form of fragments of containers, packaging and other disposable items from daily life.

Inspired by the spirit and the art of César Manrique, he started to make coloured mosaics with the fragments he collected from the coasts, which allowed him to turn something ugly into something beautiful, to use art as a channel to denounce the rubbish that we generate and as a way to take care of the island.

Being conscious of the environment is to learn to leave nothing more than your footprints behind you.

When Alvaro walks barefoot on the ground he feels special and perceives the place as magical. It allows him to walk more slowly and observe the environment around him more closely.
