“My experience in Lanzarote” a tale by Lovely Viajes
I was really looking forward to getting to know Lanzarote because there must be something in it when everyone raves about a place, right?
“It’s like visiting Mars.”
“You’ll see for yourself, it’s not going to remind you of anywhere you’ve ever visited before.”
“The island’s contrasts are just beautiful.”
That’s what they told me. I thought it was just coincidence, but no, it’s known as ‘the Lanzarote effect’ and you bring it with you.
What most surprised me on first sight was the unique landscape that awaits you and the colour contrasts that present themselves between the lapilli (the black soil that is volcanic in origin), the intense blue of the sky and the sea, the verdant green of the succulent, cacti and aloe plants, all topped off by the brilliant white of the whitewashed walls. This bath of colour is incredibly seductive to the eye and you get used to it all too quickly.
Lanzarote is one of those islands that transmits peace, calm and serenity to the soul… could this be this because of the respect shown to the landscape and the energy that emanates from nature in perfect balance with man? Who knows – what is clear is that thanks to the respect that has been shown to the island’s landscape and cultural identity, in 1993 Lanzarote was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
One of the people responsible for the fact that the island still maintains this authentic essence was the artist César Manrique, who created works such as Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Río (Río Viewpoint), and Jardín de Cactus (Cactus Garden) that manage to integrate the architecture into the landscape, respecting the surroundings above all else, and creating not only an aesthetic that is unique, but also a symbol for defending the land.
Did you know that island reveals itself differently depending on how the light is being reflected? That’s why any time of year is a good time to make a visit. If you have never done so, I encourage you to come and enjoy Lanzarote and use all 5 senses to explore the unique features and secrets that are hidden in this Canary Island paradise. Psssst, Psssst… In my post entitled “10 must-sees in Lanzarote” I share a few things you shouldn’t miss. After reading it, you won’t be able to resist a visit!
