At the beginning of the 15th Century, monk and painter Andrei Rublev goes to Moscow, along with his colleagues, to paint at the Kremlin cathedral.
Rublev will start to become aware of the torture, crimes and slaughter the Russian people have been threatened by.
The biography of Russian painter Andrei Rublev -Andrei Rubliov- famous for his icons, is used here to portray the social, political and artistic scene in Russia at the beginning of the 15th Century.
